Happy Boats

Okay here’s the deal, I went to the art store and bought a new blue that I haven’t tried before. You see, oil paints are a pretty expensive medium, however my local art store was having a massive sale and I saw this dark blue that sparked my memory. I tried painting with my brother @schzacj a long time ago and we borrowed my Grandpa’s #bobross video tape he had recorded. Yes, remember #vhs ? Mr. Ross was magical to watch and his voice was so soothing. I remember his funny brush drying method where he would smack the bristles against the easel, dak-a-dak-a-dak! And then he would paint kind of ugly mountains that weren’t finished yet, and he’d grab his palette knife and add the snow, and it was like being at the #minnesotastatefair during the vegetable paring knife demonstrations–you couldn’t believe your eyes. How did he make those ugly and plain mountains suddenly look AMAZING and real?! We immediately wanted to be painters making these amazing Mountains. Well, my brother definitely didn’t go the way of the painter, but somehow I made my way back. One thing I remember clearly was Bob’s use of this mysterious color called “Prussian Blue.” He always used it and I always wanted to use it. In my young mind, I imagined this romantic paint hailing from somewhere clearly nearby Russia of which I had never heard of before, making all my painting dreams come true.
You guys, now I have this paint color! And you know what? I kinda hate it so far. It’s clear-ish and overpowering and everything takes on this blueish greyish color. And yes I know now what I didn’t as a child that Prussia is just boring old Germany with a cooler name, so that’s for those who were waiting for that loose end to be tied up.
Maybe I’ll like it someday, I mean I got a humongous tube of it from that gosh darn sale. Btw this was painted using it and I hope I didn’t negatively persuade you and it’s a good painting so buy it and get some warm Bob Ross feelings with it. Happy Boats!
